History

As early as 1934 the grounds of Belmont, situated right at the boundary of the village of Lunteren and the town of Ede, have been a centre where the Salvation Army have been organising its education and recreational programs. At first this happened in the shape of an accommodation for groups (de Herberg). Since 1997 it is taking place in a comfortable four star hotel and officially recognized conference centre, under the name of Belmont.

 Alcohol free policy

 Belmont favours an alcohol free policy. This has a historical reason.

 As it happens, Hotel and Congress Centre Belmont is owned by the Foundation Salvation Army Welfare & Health Care.

 The Salvation Army was founded in the East End of London in 1865 under the name East London Mission (becoming Salvation Army in 1878) by the English Methodist clergyman William Booth. The combat against alcoholic excess among the English working class constituted - from the very beginning - one of the cornerstones of the Salvation Army.

 Fact is that workers in those days were often paid out by their boss in pubs of which this same boss was the very owner. With miserable consequences. The discouragement of the use of alcohol became one of the spearheads within the policy of the Salvation Army.

 Through the years this alcohol free policy has remained a part of the practical objectives of the Salvation Army. Being an integral unit of it, Hotel and Congress Centre Belmont is subscribing to that practical objective. That's the reason why alcohol is not served on our premises. At the same time though our special alcohol free cocktails, beers and wines are considered to be among the very best in the Netherland
